URL begins tacrolimus test service in Pokhara

Pokhara—The United Reference Laboratory (URL) Pvt. Ltd Pokhara has begun tacrolimus test facility for the first time in Pokhara. The service began as journalist Raj Bahadur Gurung got his blood tested on Sunday. The tacrolimus test measures the amount of the medicine in the blood to determine whether the concentration has reached a therapeutic level and is below the toxic level. Gurung had got his renal transplanted.

Before starting this service in Pokhara, patients had to visit Kathmandu-based hospitals for tacrolimus tests. Because of this compulsion, patients had to wait days to get their test reports. Speaking in the service opening program, journalist Gurung said that the new service is efficient and easy to have as patients need not spend more money and time going to Kathmandu.

URL Chairman Thakur Prasad Panta, Association of Private Health Institutes of Nepal Gandaki General Secretary Rishi Khatiwoda and URL CEO Bhupendra Raj Pandey put their views during the program. Basically, the test service is available on Sunday, Thursday and Tuesday in this laboratory. Emergency service is available every day. Besides Pokhara, URL has extended its branches in Damauli, Dulegaunda, Beshisahar and Waling.
