Pokhara—Authorities are preparing to airlift the all nine dead bodies- five South Korean climbers and 4 Nepali supporters who lost their lives in Gurja Himal Base Camp as their tents were violently divested by blizzard and landslide on October 10.
According to Trekking Camp Nepal managing director Wangchu Sherpa, eight bodies are to be airlifted to Kathmandu and one is to be sent to Gurja Village after the four days of incident that happened at base camp (3,500m) in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipaltiy- 1 of Myagdi district at a time when climbers were waiting for fair weather to climb the Gurja Himal (7,193m).
On October 7, the seven member expedition team- four Koreans and three Nepalis headed by Kim Chang-ho had reached Gurja Himal Base Camp and later, one Korean and one Nepali supporter had reached there on October 24 when they all lost contact. Later villagers had found dead bodies as they reached incident site, informed ward chair Jhak Bahadur Chhantyal.
Climbers were trying to ascend from southern flank of Gurja Himal before meeting with accident that swept all the tents killing all climbers and dispersing their bodies in large chunk. It takes four to eight hours walk to reach Gurja Himal Base Camp from Gurja Village.
