Pokhara—National Sports Council Nepal has honored the Nepali paragliding players who won the silver medal in 18th Asian games (Asiad) in Indonesia, at Rastriya Sabhagriha in Kathmandu on Monday. Nepali men’s paragliding team won that medal in cross country event, ending the 20 years medal drought of Nepal in Asiad.
NSCN felicitated Bimal Adhikari, Bijay Gautam, Yukesh Gurung, Sushil Gurung, Bishal Thapa including chief coach Yogesh Bhattarai and assistant coach Sano Babu Sunuwar. Players bagged Rs 0.5 million each and appreciation letter. Bhattarai received Rs 0.3 million and Sunuwar got Rs 150,000. Nepal Paraglding and Hang Gliding Association who created the environment to make happen the victory also got Rs 0.5 million.
Sports minister Jagat BK, Nepal Olympic Committee Chairman Jeevan Ram Shresta, NSCN member secretary Keshav Kumar Bista including other honored the players and coaches. A total of 185 Nepali players had taken part in 29 games of Asiad but Nepal won only one medal in paragliding.
NPHA chairman Rup Narayan Shrestha and NSCN member secretary Bista informed that Nepal is going to host the world championship of Paragliding for the first time in Nepal on coming November. The medal winner paragliding team will be felicitated in Pokhara on Tuesday.
