TAAN WRA Pokhara convention kicks off

By Rup Narayan Dhakal: Pokhara—The 15th convention and 25th Annual General Meeting of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal  (TAAN) has kicked off in Pokhara on Saturday. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung inaugurated the convention amid a formal program.

Addressing the AGM, CM Gurung said that the conservation of Phewa Lake is being difficult as there is no adequate fund to distribute as compensation to landlords around the lake to implement the criteria of 65-meter that was set by a than high level committee coordinated by Bishwo Prakash Lamichhane and uphold by the Supreme Court.

According to Gurung some Rs 1.9 billion budget should be managed to compensate the land owners around the Phewa Lake. CM Gurung further added that Pokhara Metropolitan and his provincial government can manage up to 60 percent of fund but rest of the amount should be granted by federal government. CM Gurung also promised one-door system in all kind of tourism taxes. At the same time, he stressed on the need of Korala-Triveni road development for the prosperity of this province and asked the government to expedite the improvement of Kaligandaki corridor.

At the same time CM Gurung felicitated all the former chairmen including an incumbent chairman of TAAN WRA Pokhara during the inaugural program. CM Gurung also unveiled a TAAN Yatra souvenir published during TAAN WRA Pokhara silver jubilee year that also was formally closed by CM Gurung. Meanwhile, Gandaki Province assembly member Rajiv Pahari urged the federal government to open Hima Griha and Ratna Mandir for public at earliest. He also proposed a cycling circuit around the Phewa Lake.

TAAN WRA Pokhara silver jubilee year coordinator Dambar Bahadur KC, Annapurna Rural Municipality Chief Yubaraj Kunwar, Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality Chief Karna Bahadur Gurung, Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Kedar Nath Sharma, Nepal Tourism Board Pokhara Officer Surya Thapaliya and TAAN WRA Pokhara, First Vice Chairman Hari Bhujel, Secretary Sushil Raj Paudel expressed their views during the ceremony chaired by TAAN WRA Pokhara President Deepak Raj Adhikari. The new committee of TAAN WRA Pokhara is also to be elected by this evening.
