PM Dahal formally begins local level offices and tasks

Pokhara—Nepal has formally begun the offices and tasks of local level today. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has started such task revealing the official hoarding board of Lalitpur Metropolitan City in a special ceremony. Earlier, Local Body Restructuring Committee has formed 744 local levels in Nepal.

There are now 4 metropolitan cities, 13 sub-metropolitan cities, 246 municipalities and 481 village councils in Nepal. The government had formed LBRC under Ministery of Federal Affairs and Local Development to restructure the local levels as per the federal constitution of Nepal.

Addressing a ceremony in Lalitpur, PM Dahal said that the implementation of local level restructuring was an historic task. He further added that the implementation of new structures would provide the rights to people in their own village. PM Dahal also said that he is very serious and committed to hold the local level elections in stipulated date.

He also asked the agitating Unidted Democratic Madhesi Front to take part in the local polls. Dahal retreated that he is ready to amend the constitution as demanded by the Madhesi. Dahal however made clear that there is no necessity of amendment in the boundaries of federal states to hold the local polls.

Nepal Government Chief Secretary Dr. Som Lal Subedi, Deputy Prime Minster and the Minister of Federal Affairs and Local Development Kamal Thapa, secretary of that ministry Kedar Bahadur Adhikari expressed their views during the program.
