Suicide bombings kill at least 30 in Istanbul

Police arrive at the site of a car bombing attack in Istanbul, Turkey (Reuters)—Istanbul: At least 30 people were killed and 165 other injured in a suicide bombing near an Istanbul soccer stadium on Saturday night.

The incident was carried out by a suicide bomber and a car bomber targeting police officers, killing 27 of them along with two public people, Turkish the Interior Minister of Turkey Suleyman Soylu told reporters. According to him, 10 persons were arrested in possible connection in the bombing.

Witnesses first heard the sound of bang and then the sounds of gunfire. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan termed the incident the ugly face of terror. The car bomb blasted just outside the facility commonly known as Besiktas Stadium after the local team and neighborhood. Authorities attributed the second blast, which came moments later, to a suicide bomber, Associated Press reports.
