Lake City gears up for Pokhara Int’l Marathon

Cheque being handed over to support Pokhara Marathon.

Pokhara—A total of 5,000 runners are going to take part in Safal International Pokhara Marathon 2019, informed Ex-athlete Forum Nepal Chairman Tej Gurung.

The marathon is taking place on February 19 in Pokhara. According to chairman Gurung, Guinness World record holder mountaineer Tenzing Shrepa and international runner lieutenant Kushang Gurung also will be presented at Pokhara Stadium which is the starting and ending point of the race. According to information given in the press meet today, Mt Everest summiters Rojita Buddhacharya and Deurali Chamling, former national volleyball player Manju Gurung, NRN Yam Paudel, Pokhareli Forum UK chairman Manprasad Gurung will also bee seen during the event.

Pokharali Forum UK chairman Gurung on behalf of his organization handed over a cheque worth rupees 750,000 to Ex-athlete Forum Nepal Chairman Tej Gurung to make the event success, in the press meet. At the same time, Yam Paudel on behalf of NRNs from Boston and New Hampshire of US also supported Rs 300,000 for the marathon. Gurung further informed that Rs 54,7000 have been received from Nepalese community from Hong Kong. Pokhara Metropolitan City spokesperson and ward 5 chairman Dhan Bahadur Nepali announced Rs 25,000 for the marathon during the press meet. Gandaki Province Government has supported Rs 200,000 for the race.

Rs 2,800,000 have already been collected from various persons and organizations in the name of marathon. Rs 2,300,000 have been projected to be spent to complete the race. Ex-athlete Forum Nepal’s founding chairman Khadga Ranabhat informed that the participants from Nepal and overseas are arriving Pokhara to take part in the marathon. The winner will get Rs 70,000, first runner up will receive Rs 45,000 and 2nd runner up Rs 30,000.
