Ganesh Raj Pahari is the General Secretary of Western Regional Hotel Association Pokhara. Pahari, who is also a Prachar Prasar sub-committee coordinator of 14th Fewa New Year Festival 2074, owns Hotel Tropicana in Lakeside. We have talked to Pahari about the preparation and attractions of that Festival. Excerpts:

Could you please tell us some new attractions added in Fewa New Year Festival this time?
Most of the attractions are included repeatedly but we are organizing the festival in new way. Boat race, tourist race and solo dance competition are some of the interesting events that are the parts of Fewa New Year Festival.

What is the key motto of this festival that has been organized for 14 years in Pokhara?
Conservation of Lake Fewa and Nepali cultures are our key goals. We have set a slogan- ‘Save Fewa Lake’ too to spread the message on Fewa conservation not only in principle but in practice as well. Promotion of domestic and international tourism in Western region are also our goals.

What are the features of Fewa Festival?
Presentation of cultural tableaus in opening day, varieties of foods ranging from tourist level hotels to five star hotels, folk duet songs, New Year celebration in the eve, concerts from musical bands and Children Park are some of the specialties of the festival.

Are hotels from Pokhara also offering any discount in New Year in Pokhara?
We have formulated certain packages that have designed with reasonable tariff. The packages ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 21,000 include pick up from airport/buspark, sightseeing, bungee jumping, ultralight flight, paragliding and many more. The packages comprise the accommodation from tourist standard hotels to five star hotels.

How is the booking and occupancy of Pokhara hotels these days?
The situation is not so frustrating but hotels are still not running in full capacity. We are hoping that, numbers of Nepali and international visitors would come to Pokhara to celebrate our New Year during Fewa Festival that is going to be held from April 11 to 15 at Komagane Park of Lakeside, Pokhara.
