Government decides to ban NCP activities

Pokhara—The meeting of council of ministers has decided to ban Netra Bikram Chand Biplav led Nepal Communist Party’s activities on Tuesday evening. The NCP however has not been registered in the Election Commission.

Citing the criminal acts carried out by NCP, the cabinet decided to ban this party’s activities, source said. Bombings over development infrastructures, extortion and adding the threat against security are some of the recent activities of that party.

According to information, the government will come up strictly against this party activities and administrative action will also be taken. But it has been said that no meeting was organized before deciding the banning over the NCP activities in Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had said with a delegation team that there was no possibility of dialogue with NCP, adding that the party’s activities have been creating terror. Earlier to government move, the NCP had announced nationwide bandh (closure) for March 14 against the government action against his party cadres.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal had presented over mentioned proposal in the cabinet meeting, thinking that the NCP has been engaging in violent activities rather than political acts for few years. The government had also formed a talk committee leading by Som Prasad Pandey to carry out dialogue with disgruntled groups and parties but NCP had rejected the talk proposal of that committee. 

Instead the party carried out a bombing in Ncell Head Quarter at Nakhhu of Lalitpur on February 22, 2019. One person was killed in that incident. On the same day, another bomb was found at Kamalpokhari of capital. Similarly, NCP had torched number of Ncell’s BTS towers of Myagdi, Kaski, Baglung, Nawalparasi and Kapilvastu districts. 

On March 8, 2019, a bomb had gone off in the house of Rohan Gurung who is the chairman of Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association Nepal, injuring four people. The party also had carried out another bombing in Arun III Hydro Electricity Project Power House. Few days ago, the government had seized number of weapons and explosives from the different houses of Biplav’s village in Kapilvastu.
