France grabs World Cup title

French team celebrates World Cup victory.

Pokhara—France stunned Croatia 4-2 and grabbed the 21st FIFA World Cup title for the second time after 20-year at Luzhniki Stadium in Russia last night.

Antoine Griezmann in 38th minute, Paul Pogba in 59th minute and Kylian Mbappe in 65th minute scored for France following a 18th minute suicide goal by Mario Mandzukic whose head guided the ball into the top corner from Griezmann’s free kick.

Ivan Perisic had levellved the score in 28th minute but France added three consecutive goals to ensure the victory. Mario however scored in 69th minute but that was not enough even for equalizer. After Pele, 19-year-old Mbappe remained youngest player to score in World Cup final.

After Brazil beat Italy 4-1 in 1970, France became the first team to score 4 goal in the World Cup final. France was playing final for the third time as it first won World Cup in 1998. France and Croatia had met five time before this final.

After final match, last night, top scorer Harry Kane of England with 5 goals got a Golden Boot while Croatia’s Luka Modric won Golden Ball for being the player of the tournament. Similarly, Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois was given the Golden Glove for being the leading goalkeeper and Mbappe became best player of the match.
