Lakes are major attractions of touristy town Pokhara but they have been facing the epidemic of water hyacinth. Human encroachment, sedimentation and pollutions are major factors that are making the lakes’ area smaller than before.
There appear more water hyacinths in Phewa Lake than in other lakes of Kaski district. The hyacinth covers most of the Phewa surface during summer season. The hyacinth not only hampers in the beauty of Phewa but also creates obstacles to row the boats.
