At least 50 killed in Nigeria mosque bombing

Nigeria—At least 50 persons were killed when a suicide bomb went off at a mosque in Northeastern Nigeria on Tuesday. It is the biggest mass killing in recent months in Nigeria. The place where the explosion was carried out has been facing an insurgency by Islamist militant group called Boko Haram.

According to Bayi Muhammad a worshipper at the mosque in Mubi and escaped the incident due to late for prayers, that some of the bodies were turned into pieces when the bomber made that explosion.

Reuters reports that the government and military have said numerous times since 2015 that Boko Haram’s eight-year insurgency is almost defeated but the group continues to attack civilian and military targets. It has been said that the killing from bombing this year alone reached at least 278 in Nigeria. No any force has claimed the responsibility of the bombing happened today.

Abubakar Othman, a police spokesman in Adamawa state, said the death toll could go up as there are dozens in critical condition. Mubi area was captured by Boko Haram in 2014 but the troops had pushed them out in 2015.
