TAAN elects new executive body

Kathmandu—Nava Raj Dahal has been elected as a chairman of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) in Kathmandu on Sunday. Dahal who contested from left alliance garnered 331 votes while his nearest rival Mohan Lamsal from democratic alliance got 313 votes. Independent candidate Nuru Jambu Sherpa got only 50 votes.

Dahal was assisted by the entrepreneurs close to CPN-UML and CPN-MC and Lamsal was supported by the voters close to Nepali Congress and Naya Shakti Nepal. The election also choose Khum Bahadur KC in senior vice chairman, Jivan Thapa Magar in first vice chairman, Nilhari Bastola in second vice chairman, Ang Pemba Sherpa in general secretary, Sujan Lamichhane in secretary and Ramkrishna Timilshina in treasure. At the same time Tara Rana became joint treasurer.

Similarly, Rabindra Adhikari, Rajan Prasad Kapri, Gopal Shreshta, Jivan Lama, Baburam Gurung, Suk Bahadur Lama, Sher Bahadur Pariyar and Junga Bahadur Lama were elected as executive member of TAAN. Ritu Myamdan was elected in woman member.A total of 727 voters out of eligible 1186 took part in the election that held on October 29 under 39th annual general meeting and a convention of TAAN. After his victory, newly elected chairman Dahal said that he would work for the wellbeing of trekking entrepreneurs and for whole the tourism sector.
