Kathmandu—Former Chief Election Commissioner Nilkathna Upreti stressed on effective monitoring to curb the misuse of public properties and resource in civic polls that are slated for May 14 and June 14. Speaking in an interaction organized by Press Council Nepal on last Tuesday, Upreti pushed for the need of clean and impartial elections.
He also suggested Press Council Nepal to focus its effort of monitoring especially on the FM radios and online media and to punish them who breach the media code of conducts. Upreti cautioned that the constitutional provision guarantees the women and Dalit representation in local level polls, so there might be shown the issue of discrimination.
Federation of Nepali Journalists Chairman Dr Mahendra Bista asked all concern media not to be biased in news reports and stressed to present the balanced news. Professor and journalist Chiranjeevi Khanal and Dr Kundan Aryal asked all concern bodies to beware of the cases of violation of code of conducts. Press Council Nepal Deputy Administrative Officer Ramsharan Boahara and Chief Officer Jhabindra Bhusal also expressed their remarks during the interaction.
