Five killed in Mustang bus accident-Updated

Pokhara—At least 5 persons were killed and 30 other injured as a bus carrying pilgrims met with an accident at Barha Gaun Mukti Chhetra Rural Municipality- 4, in Nepal trans-Himalayan Mustang district at 12.20 this morning.

According to Western Regional Police Office Inspector Jagat Bandhu Pokhrel, deceased are identified as Lila Khadka of Bhaktapur, Sita Timilsina of same district, Bhola Adhikari of Kathmandu, Purushottam Dhakal and Kanchhi Khadka of same district.

According to District Police Office Mustang, the bus with a number plate Na 5 Kha 6067 plunged 60 meter down from the road near Kagbeni at the Kali Gandaki River bank. The bus was heading for Jomsom from Muktinath.

A team of police reached to incident site for rescue operation following the information of tragedy. A total of 35 passengers were travelling in the ill-fated bus. Most of the deceased and injured are devotees. 14 severely injured devotees were airlifted to Pokhara for treatment. Other injured were rushed to the district hospital of Mustang.
