MoU signed to construct parapet in Pokhara Stadium

By Rup Narayan Dhakal: Pokhara–Ministry of Youth and Sports has clinched a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ND Engineering Consultancy Kathmandu to prepare a Detail Project Report (DPR) of parapet around the Pokhara Stadium today.

Western Regional Sports Development Committee Chairman Khaga Raj Paudel and ND Chairman Niranjan Dumre signed a MoU in the presence of MYS secretary Mahesh Prasad Dahal. According to Dumre, his consultancy would prepare DPR that includes the details of soil test, structure design and other things.

Secretary Dahal informed that the ministry would allocate necessary funds in next year budget following the preparation of DPR of 30,000 people capacity parapet. He also claimed that the parapet would be ready to host women football of South Asian Games in 2019 in Pokhara. Secretary Dahal asked National Sports Council to take initiative to complete the parapet within the stipulated time frame.

All Nepal Football Association deputy general-secretary Ganesh Bahadur Bhattari asked all the concern bodies to develop Pokhara as a sports training hub. He also expressed dissatisfaction over the politicization in sports sector.

Pokhara Stadium that covers 415 ropanis of land owns the old infrastructures that were built during 2nd National Games in 2040 BS. Most of them have been weaken by last year’s massive earthquake. With an investment of Rs 140 million, multipurpose covered hall is also being built in Pokhara Stadium.

The construction task of volleyball training center has been halted but four international level badminton courts are going to be built very soon. The lawn tennis and archery infrastructures have already been built. Chaudhary Group has already tested the soil to construct a cricket ground.
