
Recentfusion.com–Pokhara: Firke Bulaudi cleaning drive is underway in Pokhara. In spite of raining, civilians and security personals remained busy to clean the Firke Khola as part of its third series of cleaning drive, near New Buspark Pokhara on Saturday.
SOS Balgram, SOS Gandaki, SOS Vocational Training Center Chhorepatan Pokhara showed their solidarity in cleaning campaign. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Nepal Government former Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudel and Chief Seretary Dr. Som Lal Subdi had jointly inaugurated the cleaning drive on June 4.
The polluted water of Firke Khola and Bulaudi Khola directly goes to Phewa Lake, Nepal’s 2nd largest lake and one of the key touristic points of Nepal. The campaign stared to save the existence of Phewa Lake from pollution and sedimentation, said Nagarik Samaj’s Coordinator Ram Bahadur Paudel. The campaign has been leading by Nagarik Samaj since June 4.
The campaign began as two streams were polluted by the garbage directly thrown by some of the local people. 7.5 Kilometer long Firkey Khola starts from ward number 26 of Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City and around 3 kilometer long Bulaudi Khola also starts from same ward.
Plastic, papers, waste, condoms including so many garbage that are thrown in those two streams go to Phewa Lake. It is claimed that, such process had made an island burring some parts of lake, in Gaighat nearby Damside of Pokhara.
Students, security personals, mother groups, locality development intuitions and metropolitancity office are involved in the cleaning drive that is continued in every Saturday.
Submitting a 3 points memorandum to Pokhara Sub-Metroplitan City office, Nagarik Samaj Pokhara demanded to form ward level committees around Firke and Bulaudi Khola, to ban plastic bags and glasses, to demolish the illegal structures nearby those streams. Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City Office CEO Bhim Bahadur Kunwar assured that his office is going to form such committee soon.
