During Shrawan, (the fourth month, or the holy month, according to Nepali calender), green rules not only the natural environment but also the hands of Nepalese women. The tinkling sound of green glass bangles (hariyo kaanch ko chura in Nepalese) plays an important role in the month of Shrawan.

More than half of all the Member States of the United Nations contribute troops and police to peacekeeping operations. We are grateful to every one of them. But our special thanks go to the top contributors, of which Nepal ranks in the first five. Over the past 50 years, Nepal has contributed 60,000 peacekeepers in some 40 peacekeeping missions.

I just briefed the Security Council this morning on the basis of the report of the Secretary-General, which as you know, reports on the circumstances and results of that election.

Vegas used to be a town of cheap rooms, inexpensive food, and free entertainment. But all that's been changing since the sixties when they figured out they could take the talent in the lounges, build a closed-in theater, put the acts in there and start charging admission.

The main threats to peaceful campaigning were continuing acts of violence.
