Nepal polls conclude peacefully

Pokhara—The second and final phase of parliamentary and provincial assembly polls have concluded peacefully in 45 districts of Nepal today.

At least two persons injured when CPN-UML and Nepali Congress cadres clashed at Balkot in Bhaktapur during the polls. UML cadres have accused Nepali Congress cadre Rabi Rana of confiscating the voting ID cards from some women. Similarly, at least three persons got injured when Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party cadres clashed at Phulparasi poling center of Kaudena rural municipality in Sarlahi district. Police also opened four rounds of air shots to control the situation. Likewise, left alliance has accused Nepali Congress of capturing four booths at Chapakot Municipality in Syngja. The alliance also urged the Election Commission for repolling in those booths.

Similarly, 16 persons who were carrying a dead body and were going to perform a funeral procession also cast their votes before reaching their destination, at Batase in Palpa district. Likewise, an elderly person has died in Palpa district following casting his votes from Daraithanti poling center in Rampur municipality- 6. One other elderly woman also died in Doti district while she was on her way to poling center.

At the same time, Nepal Army squad has defused a bomb planted in Balkot of Bhaktapur this morning. Three bombs have been found in Syanga and NA is preparing to defuse them. Talking to, Netra Bikram Chand Biplav led communist party has taken the responsibility of planting and blasting bombs in various parts of Nepal protesting this election. This party’s politburo leader Om Prakash Pun also claimed that the incidents of bombings and explosion won’t be happened from this evening today.

At the same time, police have arrested six district level leaders including Ravi Gole of this party yesterday and made public today. A pistol, some explosives including political documents have been recovered from them. Police have claimed that they are the same persons who had carried out explosions in the election campaign of NC leader Gagan Kumar Thapa in Kathmandu on Monday. Thapa including other 10 had injured during the explosion that day.

Likewise, accusing of involvement in anti election activities, police have arrested a Tarai based leader CK Raut from Dhanus this morning. He has been demanding separate Madhes state and has been appealing to his followers to boycott the today’s polls. Following the completion of second and final phase of polls today, Election Commission has planned to count the votes that were cast in first phase of polls held on November 26 in 32 district of Nepal.
