Nepal voting today in second phase of local election

By Rup Narayan Dhakal: Pokhara—Nepalese are casting their votes after 2 decades to choose their local representatives through local level polls in Nepal today.

The polls commenced at 7 am this morning and this ends at 5 pm local time today. 4,956,925 voters from 34 districts are eligible to take part in this first phase of polls. 6,641 polling centers are established to run the polls. A total of 50 thousands candidates are vying for more than 13,500 posts in this election, informed Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Ayodhi Prasad Yadhav.

Prime Minister and ruling CPN-MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda also cast his vote in polling center of Bharatpur Metropolitan of Chitwan this morning. The polls are undergoing in 283 local units of province number 3, 4 and 6 of Nepal.

Voters are taking part in the polls peacefully however a person was shot dead the day before in Nepal’s Kavre district before polls today. Naba Raj Pathak, 28, was wounded when he sustained bullet but later he took final breath in a local hospital, police said. The polling date for 2nd phase of polls for provinces 1,2,5 and 7 is slate for 14 June.
