Recentfusion.com–Pokhara: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari Wednesday showed her solidarity in water hyacinth removal drive that has been undergoing since August 26, 2016 every Friday in Phewa Lake, one of the nine lakes of Pokhara valley.
President Bhandari went to the shore of Phewa Lake and removed some water hyacinth from there.The program was launched by the Phewa Lake Conservation Project under Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City Office in association with tourism related organizations and civil society members.
The Civil Society of Pokhara (CSP) submitted seven point memorandums to President Bhandari during the program. The memorandum reads that the dozens of government and non government organizations have been working in the name of Phewa conservation but the progress towards the conservation seems very miserable.
The first point of memorandum urges to construct check dams to stop the siltation caused by summer floods occurs every year in northeast part of the lake. Likewise, the society urged to construct that kinds of dams also in other streams that directly reached to Phewa.
The committee also demands to implement the suggestions included in a report submitted by a high level committee to Nepal Government. Availability of water hyacinth harvesting machine and diversion of sewerages are also the demands included in a memorandum. The conservation of Phewa wetlands and implementation of master plan of Phewa conservation also are included in the memorandum signed by CSP coordinator Ram Bahadur Paudel.
