Pokhralis submit memorandum against Hima Griha lease plan

Recentfusion.com–Pokhara: Protesting the decision of Nepal Trust of leasing HIma Griha, a unit of royal family’s winter retreat center along the Phewa Lake, People from Pokhara submitted an eight point memorandum to political parties’ Kaski branch on Tuesday.

Publishing a notice on Gorkhapatra Daily, Nepal Trust had invited bids to lease Hima Griha for commercial propose on April 30. According to Ram Bahadur Paudel, Coordinator of Civil Society Kaski, the trust move of leasing the Hima Griha is against the aspiration of people from Pokhara.

Protesting the trust’s decision, the memorandum was submitted to the office of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN Maoist Center, RPP Nepal, Rastriya Janamorcha and CPN Maoist. FNJ Kaski president Ram Krishna Gyawali, PTC president Som Bahadur Thapa, NTC member Basu Dev Tripathi were among the representatives who went to the parties’ office to submit the memorandum.

The memorandum told the trust not to lease the public property in the time of transition, when Ratna Mandir is going to be opened to public for visit proposes. Hima Griha was turned into national property after the abolition of monarchy in 2008. Its premises cover area of 10 ropani and 4 aana of land. Late King Mahendra purchased the land in 2013 VS to establish the Hima Griha.

Hima Griha has been suggested to develop as a park or museum instead of giving to Yeti Airlines for commercial use for the period of five years in the bidding money of 10.5 million rupees.

Similarly on June 15, various tourism-related organizations of Pokhara presented a black banner nearby Yeti Airlines Pokhara office and Hima Griha protesting the trust’s decision. They had demanded to scrap the trust’s decision and warned of stopping the Yeti’s flights if the lease plan goes ahead.
